That was an exciting night. The tent survived! Unfortunately, my boots and gear are still wet from yesterday. The weather looks threatening, so I pack quickly, and enjoy some beautiful early morning views.
The highlight of the morning is Cambeak, formed of magnificent layers of twisted and folded rock. The sun is out, and I stand on the cliff, arms wide, eyes closed, drying out in the warm wind. The restorative power of the sun.
I grab lunch at the Haven Beach Shop & Cafe in Crackington Haven. I’m a bit worried, as I passed on a beer at the nearby pub, for a healthy, delicious, beef and salad sandwich. The less healthy carrot cake is burnt off on the long climb up to Castle Point.
The afternoon walk to Bude is lovely, and the weather is kind.
The owner of Upper Lynstone Caravan Park gives me a superb sheltered pitch, with only a few rabbits for company. It is just outside Bude, and I wander down the hill, to the edge of the town, in search of a pub. It is Friday night, so the first couple of attractive pubs are full, and I end up in a weary looking, local boozer, with a dodgy burger, the cheese slice barely melted. However, it is friendly, warm, and the beer is good. It has been another tough day, but I feel good, apart from my niggling right knee. Refreshed, I head back to the rabbit warren for the night.

Hi Tony, just looking at those photos of the re-ascents makes me feel tired! I managed to walk a few of the sections north of Bude along the beach at low tide. Wow, Cornwall will soon be a distant memory!
Cornwall is my favourite county so far. We have a family holiday booked there for next summer, so I will get the chance to walk some stretches again, including a visit to the Minack theatre.
Another tough walk, but how lovely to have the sunshine and great photos. The little house at Millook featured in a terrible film about a lighthouse, called Half Light with Demi Moore. I’m wondering how you will tackle the next section to Hartland Point. After that, the rest of the coast is easy!
Very interesting. I am a big movie fan, but that is one I have not heard of. I see it was also filmed in Anglesey. I have a long journey back to start my walk at Hartland Quay next week.
Great walk and super photos. I love this part of the coast. I’ve also been to Widemouth Bay, and was fascinated by the rock formations which I’ve learned since are incredible all along the Bude beaches, dating back over 300 million years.
Thanks Karen. I love learning about the coastline, its’ geology, history, flora, fauna, and inhabitants, as I progress. I have a lot to learn!
Some nice beaches along that stretch I remember. Widemouth Bay especially and some nice beaches in Bude too. At least you had some sunshine for this bit!
