Day 27: Lulworth Cove to Ferry Bridge

The challenging Worth Matravers to Lulworth Cove walk is postponed until next weekend, as it passes through MOD firing ranges, and they are closed during weekdays. Duncan survived the night in the Viano and his friend, Ian, joins us for the day. Wendy, his wife, has baked the most delicious flapjack to sustain us. We are early enough for Durdle Door to be quiet. I have happy memories of a family holiday here, kayaking under the arch.

The views from the cliff-top walk are spectacular, and Ian takes a great banner picture for my blog of me standing at this spot.

With perfect timing for lunch, we are forced to pass through the attractive Smugglers Inn pub at Osmington Mills and lured into a refreshing pint of Badger’s Fursty Ferret.

The afternoon terrain is relatively flat. We pass the Covid-mothballed cruise ships in Weymouth Bay and meander round the lovely harbour.

We finish at Chesil car park with the impressive backdrop hinting at things to come. It was great to have such good company over the past two days and share the sights and experiences — not to mention the flapjack!

Walk distance: 13 miles.

Total distance: 371 miles.

  1. Really enjoyed the walk Tony. If I join you again for the Ranges on Saturday some more flapjacks may be forthcoming…
