Day 47: Portloe to Falmouth

A breakfast energy bar is a sad substitute for a bacon roll, but it is too early for any cafes to be open. It is a squally morning. I put my waterproof on, and the rain stops. I take it off, and the rain starts again. One of those days.

Leaving Portloe.
Carne Beach.
Portscatho Lookout Station.
Porthbeor Beach.
View from St Anthony Head to Castle Point.
Place House.

The sun comes out at Falmouth, although the wind remains strong, so everyone is soaked on the tiny ferry crossing the choppy sea from Place to St Mawes. The harbour pubs are teeming with people sitting outside. Apart from one, The Front, which is my CAMRA recommended destination. An inauspicious entrance leads to a dark cellar, which reveals an amazing bar lined with ten real ales, none of which I recognise. Wow!

The bar staff are all wearing rock t-shirts and smile at my reaction, which is apparently not unusual. They let me sample as many beers as I want. Sadly, I only have time for a couple of pints: Steam Demon and Rocky Pale Ale. With great music playing, this is possibly the best pub I have ever been in. I linger a little too long and make a reluctant dash for the train home.

Walk distance: 14 miles.

Total distance: 655 miles.
